Apply for the Green Schools Program!
November 1, 2011
What typically comes to mind when you think of how a department of transportation supports schools? Most often, it’s probably images of crossing guards and school buses.
Well, that is all changing.
The Streets Department is bringing new and innovative ways to promote healthy, “green” schools in the city.
This fall, the Streets Department, in partnership with Recyclebank, is accepting applications for its exciting Green Schools Program, which encourages recycling and other green initiatives in local schools. Schools accepted into the Green Schools Program earn money based on Recyclebank Point donations made to their project – thereby turning a community’s green actions into funds for a local school.
The Green Schools Program empowers youth to become green heroes and make a positive green impact in their own communities! Proposals can be for projects up to $2,500. Last year, Recyclebank donated over $29,000 to eight Philadelphia schools so now’s your chance to be part of the action.
It’s easy for schools to apply. Simply encourage your school to register for the Green Schools Program. The 2011-2012 grant application can be found here. All applications must be submitted by November 15, 2011. To learn more about the Green Schools Program, view the Streets Department press release or visit the Recyclebank website.
